Pool service vacation coverage.

Pool routes need weekly service. Algae blooms in 5 days. Solo pool techs face the same vacation challenge as landscapers — but with chemistry stakes. Here's how to take vacation without returning to a green pool.

Quick answer

Off-season vacation (October-March in most US regions) is the easy answer for pool service. In-season vacation requires either (1) a covering pool tech with route handoff or (2) double-service the week before so accounts have 10 days of treatment instead of 7. Most peak-season pools can hold 10 days; few can hold 14. Don't go beyond 10 in-season without covering coverage.

Off-season vacation (recommended)

October through March in most US regions, pools are closed or low-maintenance. Take vacation then.

If you're in Florida / Arizona / Southern California, off-season is shorter — mid-December through mid-February.

In-season: the 10-day rule

Most pools can hold 10 days of unmaintained chemistry without algae bloom. Beyond 10 days, you risk green pools and angry customers.

Plan trips of 10 days or less in-season, with double-service the week before. Anything longer needs covering coverage.

Covering pool tech arrangement

Reciprocal arrangement with another local pool company. They run your route at agreed price-per-stop; you reciprocate when they vacation.

Critical: covering tech needs:

Customer communication

2 weeks out: notify all route accounts of the vacation dates and either (a) advanced service date if you're double-up'ing, or (b) covering tech name if they're handling the route.
