Solo tutors should align vacation to natural school breaks (winter break, spring break, summer). For test-prep tutors with student exam dates falling during desired vacation: covering tutor with subject-area expertise, OR shift the trip. Most tutors can take 4-6 weeks of cumulative vacation per year by riding the school calendar.
SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, AP exams have fixed dates. If a student's test falls during desired vacation:
2-3 weeks before vacation: email parents with dates and resumption plan. Most respect it.
Address student preparation: assign work for the gap week so academic momentum doesn't break.
